That P word
Someone recently asked me if I gave up on Substack.
The answer was an immediate, from-the-chest NO.
absolutely not, don’t play with me
But it did make me realize I owed y’all something, especially for the holidays. So here I am, pulling up with a gift.
And no, it’s not another “be consistent” speech.
It’s patience.
Now let’s be clear: patience has never been my top “P” word.
I prefer please. I like things done, I accidentally picked up some patience and I’ve been using it. Wild.
I finally learned that I don’t have to be Usain Bolt with everything.
Some things are not sprints. Some things are… baking.
Because if you don’t let something bake long enough, it’s going to fall. And nobody wants a collapsed cake pretending it’s desse
That’s what I was doing with Substack.
I put myself on a weekly posting schedule, trying to build a following in a microwave, knowing good and well Rome wasn’t built in a day. I was rushing the process, rushing the growth, rushing the results.
So I slowed down.
And I took that same lesson straight into my writing, especially the Suni Series.
Originally, I wanted to release the second book, District Between Us, in November. I had the date circled, highlighted, emotionally attached. Then someone asked me a simple question:
“Why are you rushing this?”
Whew. That one sat me down.
Reading is timeless. Stories don’t expire. And forcing a release date doesn’t make the work better,it just makes it faster.
So I went back to the drawing board and pushed the release to January 13, 2026.
And honestly? That might be the best decision I made all year.
I’m relaxed. I’m prepared. I’m excited. And for the first time, I’m not releasing from pressure,I’m releasing from confidence.
All because of that P word.
I’m baking something that belongs on Cake Wars, not rushing a boxed mix just to say it’s done.
For my football lovers, think of it this way:
The goal isn’t the touchdown on the first play. It’s first downs. Ten yards at a time. Those small gains add up to 100 yards and eventually, the end zone.
That’s patience.
As long as you reach your end goal, it doesn’t matter how long it took to get there.
So if you thought I disappeared, nah!
I was just learning how to wait… and letting things bake.
Happy holidays. And thank you for staying with me.
